About us

Ben Heneghan

Ben Heneghan studied music and composition at Aberystwyth University, graduating with first-class honours before completing his postgraduate studies at Cardiff.

In addition to being a versatile composer, able to work well beneath the surface in a variety of styles, Ben is also an expert lyricist and distinctive singer. These disparate strands all come together in his songs and choral and orchestral works, as well as underpinning his resourcefulness as a composer of soundtracks.

Ian Lawson

Ian Lawson studied music to postgraduate level at Cardiff University. From the beginning he was equally attracted to both classical and popular music - performing and recording jazz and rock as well as composing for orchestra.

This diversity provides the key to working within the television and film industry. However, like Ben, Ian also writes for the concert hall and, complementing his roles as composer and producer, is also active as a pianist, recording and performing his own piano music.

Heneghan & Lawson

The partnership, now of more than twenty years standing, formed when Ben Heneghan and Ian Lawson met as postgraduate music students at Cardiff University. Their training in composition has equipped them to write authentically in a wide range of styles and to handle forces from solo instruments to full symphony orchestra.

Their early professional career coincided with the start of Channel 4 and S4C, and Ben and Ian were soon in demand to write music for animation, factual and film drama productions.

With over 250 credits to their name, they have acquired extensive experience in writing for all types of productions, and are equally at home working with an 80-piece orchestra, a gospel choir, or entirely electronically.

Separately, both composers continue to write concert music. Their music has been performed by the Hallé, the BBC National Orchestra of Wales, and Welsh National Opera, and released on CD by Chandos Records. Wearing completely different hats, they co-lead a 12-piece pop/rock band, The Boo-Hooray Theory.
